Where to Stay in Porto Seguro, Bahia

Located in southern Bahia, Porto Seguro is a coastal city with 90 kilometers (55.92 miles) of coastline. The location provides accommodations in a number of areas, the majority of which are beaches with amazing resorts and first-rate facilities.

You can choose where to stay in Porto Seguro based on the beach that best suits your style and then explore other beaches and must-see attractions in the region. For those looking for beachfront accommodations, the best places to stay in Porto Seguro are Taperapuã Beach, Mundaí Beach, Curuípe Beach, Coroa Vermelha Beach, and Mutá Beach.

We consider Taperapuã Beach the best place to stay in Porto Seguro, as it offers a complete structure for visitors. The downtown is also highly recommended, featuring attractions and good hotels, making it an ideal base for those planning to visit other destinations in Bahia.

Below, we provide a detailed overview of each region, along with recommendations for the best hotels in Porto Seguro, so you can choose the area and hotel that best match your travel style.

1. Taperapuã Beach: the best place to stay in Porto Seguro

This image shows sun-drenched Taperapuã Beach with golden sand stretching along the coastline, surrounded by calm, turquoise waters. The best place to stay in Porto Seguro is undoubtedly Taperapuã Beach. This is because it is the most beautiful beach in the region, with blue waters most days, and it boasts excellent infrastructure, offering a wide variety of bars, restaurants, hotels, resorts, travel agencies, cafés, and supermarkets.

This area hosts the most vibrant parties in Porto Seguro. During the summer, especially during Carnival, you’ll find major events happening here. Additionally, the beach, located 7 kilometers (4.34 miles) from downtown and 9 kilometers (5.59 miles) from the airport, features some of the destination’s most popular beach clubs, such as Axé Moi, where you can enjoy Bahia’s most typical dishes.

Taperapuã is one of the busiest areas in Porto Seguro, and if you’re not traveling by car, you’ll find plenty of public transportation, taxis, and Uber options to get to other regions and beaches.

The downside of staying in this area is precisely its lively atmosphere. While there are quieter spots, Taperapuã Beach is not recommended for those seeking a more peaceful experience, especially during the summer and Carnival.

Recommended accommodations at Taperapuã Beach:

  • Portobello Park Hotel: Located 400 meters from the beach, this hotel offers a complete structure for adults and children, including a restaurant, bar, swimming pools, gym, sauna, sports courts, and breakfast.
  • Capoeira Village: Another excellent option for your stay in Porto Seguro. This colorful hotel features simple yet cozy decor, ensuring comfort throughout your trip.
  • Porto Geraes Praia Hotel: Just 100 meters from the beach, this hotel features an outdoor pool, beach entertainment area, restaurants, sauna, playground, and breakfast service.
  • Resort Arcobaleno All Inclusive: An all-inclusive resort with exceptional accommodations and amenities. It offers two pools, a spa, a bar, breakfast, a gym, and a private beach where you can enjoy spectacular days.
  • Nauticomar Resort All Inclusive & Beach Club: Another all-inclusive resort, located 200 meters from the beach. It features full resort infrastructure and is 300 meters from the famous Axé Moi beach bar.

2. Mundaí Beach: a quiet beach close to Taperapuã

Mundaí Beach in Porto Seguro, featuring golden sands, gentle waves, and a clear blue sky, offering a tranquil setting perfect for relaxation. This serene beach is an amazing place when exploring where to stay in Porto Seguro.

Mundaí Beach, which is situated between Curuípe Beach and Taperapuã Beach, is another amazing place to stay in Porto Seguro. It marks the beginning of the beautiful beaches and the lively atmosphere of the destination.

With calm waters in a deeper shade of blue, this beach is located slightly farther from downtown (3.6 kilometers/2.23 miles) and balances Bahia’s tranquility with its vibrant energy. The main attraction and most visited spot in the area is the Tôa-Tôa entertainment complex, but outside this area, you can enjoy a quieter experience.

Great lodging options, welcoming eateries, and beachside bars can all be found at the beach. Transportation is accessible, with options like buses, Uber, and taxis, although public transportation can be somewhat limited.

The downside of staying at this beach is that it does not provide as many services as other beaches in the region. Additionally, having a car is important when staying here to avoid relying on transportation to explore Porto Seguro’s attractions.

Recommended accommodations at Mundaí Beach:

  • Pontal Praia Hotel: Located 100 meters from Mundaí Beach, this hotel features two swimming pools, a sauna, free parking, a restaurant, a bar, and rooms with balconies. Breakfast is included.
  • Brisa da Praia Park Hotel: This hotel offers swimming pools, a spa, a gym, free parking, a bar, and breakfast. It has rooms that accommodate up to four guests and a kids’ area.

3. Downtown: convenient location and affordable prices

This image shows a scenic aerial view of a coastal town, featuring vibrant buildings with red-tiled roofs surrounded by lush greenery. Several boats and yachts are docked at a calm waterfront, with a small island visible in the background under a clear blue sky. The image captures the charm and tranquility of a seaside Porto Seguro community.

The downtown offers a wide variety of shops and services, but to be honest, the main reason to stay in this area is its strategic location rather than its attractions or infrastructure.

In downtown, you’ll find good hotels with lower rates compared to accommodations along the coastline. Additionally, the area features some interesting attractions, such as the well-known Passarela do Descobrimento (formerly Passarela do Álcool).

Staying in downtown provides easy access to the ferry terminal for trips to Arraial D’Ajuda, and it’s close to the airport and bus station. Public transportation options (buses, taxis, and Uber) are also available, making it convenient to reach other areas.

However, there are some disadvantages to staying in this area. The hotels are older and lack the amenities of the beachfront resorts, and you’ll be farther from the most beautiful beaches, which are the main attractions of Porto Seguro.

Recommended accommodations in downtown:

  • Hotel Bem Brasil: Located just a 2-minute walk from Passarela do Álcool, this hotel offers simple yet comfortable accommodations. It features an outdoor pool and provides a buffet breakfast.
  • Hotel Estalagem Porto Seguro: A historic hotel in Porto Seguro with an outdoor pool, barbecue facilities, a bar, and breakfast. With well-decorated spaces, the hotel offers great rates.
  • Best Western Shalimar Praia Hotel: While not exactly in downtown, this hotel is located at Praia do Cruzeiro (a 10-minute walk from downtown). It’s included in this list for its amazing structure and beachfront location, allowing guests to enjoy proximity to downtown while staying by the sea.
  • Eden Praia Hotel: A hotel with simple facilities, a pool, breakfast, a restaurant, and free parking. All rooms include a minibar.

4. Curuípe Beach: practical area with easy mobility

uruípe Beach in Porto Seguro, featuring a pristine stretch of sand meeting calm, blue waters under a partly cloudy sky. A peaceful shoreline perfect for relaxation and enjoying the natural beauty of this coastal destination."

Located 3 kilometers (1.86 miles) from downtown, Curuípe Beach is the closest central beach we recommend for accommodations. It’s ideal for those who want to stay by the beach while also being near downtown.

Staying here provides easier access to both private and public transportation. Additionally, the beach features amazing hotels, restaurants, and kiosks where you can enjoy your day. Despite the location’s convenience, renting a car is strongly advised.

One drawback of this area is that the beach itself is not as visually appealing as others mentioned here. Its waters are murky due to its proximity to downtown, where the Buranhém River flows.

It’s worth noting that this is Curuípe Beach on Porto Seguro’s shoreline, not the renowned Espelho Beach, which is also called Curuípe Beach but is located in a different region and is stunningly beautiful.

Recommended accommodations at Curuípe Beach:

  • Porto Seguro Praia Resort: An all-inclusive resort with excellent amenities for both adults and children. It features a complete structure with pools, restaurants, a private beach, a bar, a beach club, a zip line, and more. We’ve stayed at this resort and had a fantastic experience.
  • Quinta do Sol Praia Hotel: This beachfront hotel is located 300 meters from the Memorial of Discovery. It offers a bar, an outdoor pool, breakfast, and rooms with balconies and sea views.
  • Porto Cálem Praia Hotel: With colorful decor, this hotel provides all the comfort you might need when deciding where to stay in Porto Seguro. It features rooms with balconies and hammocks, outdoor pools, a restaurant, a bar, a gym, and breakfast.
  • PSP Resort All Inclusive: A beachfront resort offering an outdoor pool, free parking, a gym, a restaurant, a sauna, a hot tub, and a private beach. It is undoubtedly one of the best places to stay in Porto Seguro.

5. Coroa Vermelha Beach: beautiful beach with excellent vacation rentals

Located on the border between Porto Seguro and the municipality of Santa Cruz Cabrália, 16 kilometers (9.94 miles) from downtown, Coroa Vermelha Beach is another excellent recommendation for places to stay in Porto Seguro.

The beach is notable for its historical significance in addition to its excellent infrastructure, which includes nice lodging, dining options, and kiosks. It is considered Brazil’s landmark zero, where Pedro Álvares Cabral first landed.

Coroa Vermelha Beach features clear, calm waters and a picturesque setting with coconut trees lining its shore. Staying here also gives you the opportunity to visit the Indigenous Museum and the Pataxó Indigenous Village. While public and private transportation (Uber and taxis) are available, they are limited in this area, though not impossible to find. For this reason, we recommend renting a car if you stay at Coroa Vermelha Beach.

A drawback is that the beach is quite far from downtown, and most of its infrastructure is located in the municipality of Santa Cruz Cabrália.

It’s also worth noting that while hotel options are limited, the beach offers excellent vacation rental properties for those seeking seasonal accommodations.

Recommended accommodations at Coroa Vermelha Beach:

  • Pousada Aldeia Portuguesa: A cozy and simple inn featuring two pools, a barbecue area, and breakfast service. The accommodations include rooms, chalets, and two-bedroom houses that can host up to six guests.
  • Condomínio Brasil Coroa: Located 300 meters from Coroa Vermelha Beach, this fully equipped apartment is situated in a condominium and accommodates up to six guests

6. Mutá Beach: ideal for family trips

Located 13 kilometers (8.07 miles) from downtown, Mutá Beach is the most peaceful beach in the area, making it ideal for family trips and those seeking a quieter spot.

Despite its tranquility, the region offers excelent infrastructure, including excellent hotels and restaurants. Additionally, the beach’s waters are almost always calm and blue, creating a stunning view. Another highlight is that the sea forms natural pools, making it particularly appealing for children and adults alike.

The main drawback of staying at this beach is the need for a car to explore other attractions in Porto Seguro, as public transportation is more limited. However, taxis and Uber are available in the area. Another downside is that you won’t find as many services as on other beaches.

Recommended accommodations at Mutá Beach:

  • La Torre Resort All Inclusive: This all-inclusive resort features beach-inspired decor and offers six pools, two restaurants, six bars, a pizzeria, a burger joint, a park, a theater, an adventure circuit, a beach club, and a spa. Accommodations are divided into seven categories.
  • Ondas Praia Resort by WAM Experience: A resort with excellent facilities and activities for all ages. It includes two pools, a bar, a gym, and breakfast service. Some rooms feature a microwave and minibar.
  • Coroa Vermelha Beach Resort: Also an all-inclusive resort, it provides a complete structure to enjoy an unforgettable family trip. It offers various activities to ensure a fantastic stay.
  • Village Mutá: Located beachfront at Mutá Beach and 500 meters from Coroa Vermelha Beach, this hotel features pools, a restaurant, and a beach club. Accommodations consist of one-, two-, or three-bedroom apartments with fully equipped kitchens.

When staying at all-inclusive resorts, especially those with private beaches, it’s important to be cautious about venturing too far from the property. Resort employees regularly alerted us to the possibility of robberies in locations further away from the beach clubs during our visit to Porto Seguro. Despite this, staying at an excellent all-inclusive resort and taking full advantage of its amenities remains one of the best investments you can make.
