Tips for booking accommodations in Mendoza in August:

  • In August, it’s still high season in Mendoza. Tourist traffic is heavy, and as a result, prices for accommodations, tours, and even restaurants tend to be higher. So, I recommend booking your hotel well in advance.
  • Be cautious of scams, as the rate of scams involving accommodations booked outside official platforms is quite high in Mendoza. Therefore, prefer to make your reservation on official platforms such as Booking, Hotels.com, and Airbnb.
  • Avoid making any upfront payments outside of the chosen platform, even if a property requests it.
  • Carefully read the reviews and check the location before booking any accommodations.
  • If you’re not sure where to stay in Mendoza, I recommend choosing a hotel in the downtown, near the main squares, or on Calle Aristides—a great area for those who enjoy going out at night.
  • If you prefer the winery regions, the best choice is winery hotels, which offer a complete immersive experience in the wine capital with lots of comfort, safety, and beautiful landscapes. In Valle de Uco and Luján de Cuyo, you’ll find excellent winery hotels.

6. What to bring to Mendoza in August?

A woman dressed warmly in a black jacket, scarf, and beanie stands smiling in a snowy park in Mendoza. Behind her is a statue on a red stone pedestal, surrounded by trees and a few benches, with snowflakes falling gently.

Your suitcase for Mendoza in August should include clothes for cold weather and a few items for milder days.

I recommend packing clothes suitable for temperatures ranging from 4°C (39.2°F) to over 18°C (64.4°F). Accessories like scarves, boots, thermal underwear, and warm coats are highly recommended for added comfort throughout the month.

When traveling to Mendoza in August, pack a suitcase with cold-weather clothing, and don’t forget to bring warm pants, knits, sweatshirts, and a coat that can handle very low temperatures. See below for the essential items for your travel bag.

  • Sunscreen: Despite the low temperatures, sunscreen is always essential for skin health and protection.
  • Cold weather clothing: Temperatures in August are low, especially at night. Therefore, bring very warm pants, wool, knits, sweatshirts, coats, and sweaters. Don’t forget to bring options for even colder days.
  • Thermals: This is a highly recommended item in August, especially if you don’t have items for a more intense cold.
  • Accessories: If you tend to feel very cold, you can bring a scarf, tights, or a beanie.
  • Moisturizers: don’t forget facial, body, and lip moisturizers, as they are essential for keeping your skin and lips hydrated.
  • Cap/Hat: Since temperatures are lower and the sun isn’t as intense, caps and hats are no longer essential, but they’re still welcome—especially for hiking and adventure tours.
  • Boots and Sneakers: Your August suitcase must include boots or sneakers. Closed-toe shoes are essential to keep your feet warm in the colder temperatures.
  • Socks: Choose thicker socks to keep your feet warm on colder days.
  • Trail Shoes: If you’re an adventurer planning to go trekking in the region, don’t forget to bring trail-appropriate shoes or boots.
  • Sportswear: If you’re going hiking or biking, pack comfortable and suitable clothing for the activity. We recommend bringing leggings/pants, light tops/tank tops, and a jacket (a windbreaker works well).
  • Swimwear: If you plan to visit the Termas de Cacheuta, be sure to pack at least one swimsuit in your travel bag.
  • Coat: One or more coats that can handle intense cold are essential when traveling to Mendoza in August.
  • Clothing for Snow and Extreme Cold: If you’re going to practice snow sports, don’t forget the proper clothing. If you don’t have it, several stores in Potrerillos offer rental of snow gear and clothing.

In addition to the items mentioned, don’t forget the necessary documents to enter Argentina.

When traveling to Mendoza, don’t forget to subscribe to a VPN (Virtual Private Network). It’s essential for our trips, as it secures connections on Wi-Fi networks and allows access to any website or app from other countries. We’ve encountered issues accessing bank apps while abroad, and the VPN enabled quick and secure access.
